Helene Cartaina

Legal Writing Instructor

Helene Cartaina has extensive experience as a litigator in private practice, and extensive training as a legal writer. Most recently, Helene was of counsel to the law firm Boundas, Skarzynski, Walsh and Black LLC. At Boundas, Helene’s practice focused on matters involving professional liability insurance coverage, including directors and officers liability, investment advisors liability, and fiduciary liability. Helene also worked on general litigation matters, including personal injury and breach of contract actions.

At Boundas, Helene was actively involved in recruiting and mentoring junior associates, and she was frequently tapped for public speaking engagements. Earlier in her career, Helene practiced as a litigator at Heller Ehrman in the Criminal Defense and Investigation Practice as well as the Insurance Recovery Practice. Helene also spent two years practicing in the Litigation Department at Sullivan & Cromwell.

Helene served for two years as a law clerk to the Honorable Frederic Block of Eastern District of New York. It was during her clerkship that she discovered her passion for, and honed her skill in, legal writing.Helene earned her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, where she graduated in 1998. She was on the Brooklyn Law Review, for which she served as Articles Editor.
